ABOUT ASIST
ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training): ASIST is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first-aid. Participants learn to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Designed for anyone 16 years of age and older, including service providers, teachers, youth workers, students, emergency workers, counsellors, faith leaders, community volunteers, family and friends. Participants don’t need any formal training to attend the workshop.
ABOUT THE TRAINER
Suicide interventionist, TEDxUW speaker, and published author, Shawna Percy, is a passionate and engaging trainer for ASIST, safeTALK, The "ASK" Workshop, Compassion Fatigue, and Mental Health First Aid (Basic, and Adults Interacting with Youth). Shawna is the Founder of Life Voice Canada, and travels across Ontario and beyond to deliver these evidence-based, certified workshops to a broad demographic. Shawna's workshops are always filled with trauma-informed real-life stories that help participants take their learnings from theory into real-life application. (Please note ASIST-standards state these workshops must always be run with two trainers, which means portions of the workshop will be delivered by another certified ASIST trainer, in conjunction with Shawna. This is intentional as we're always balancing safety and challenge in our workshops.)
