safeTALK Workshop Moundsville, WV
safeTALK Training - English

SafeTALK is a half-day alertness training workshop designed to help individuals notice and respond to situations where suicide thoughts may be present. The program teaches participants to recognize and engage persons who might be having thoughts of suicide and to connect them with community resources trained in suicide intervention. Most people with thoughts of suicide don't truly want to die; through their words and actions, they invite help to stay alive and trained helpers can recognize these invitations and take action.

Over the course of their training, SafeTALK participants will learn to:
– Notice and respond to situations where suicide thoughts might be present
– Recognize that invitations for help are often overlooked
– Move beyond the common tendency to miss, dismiss, and avoid suicide
– Apply the TALK steps: Tell, Ask, Listen, and KeepSafe
– Know community resources and how to connect someone with thoughts of suicide to them for further help

This training is provided at no cost through a partnership between Prevent Suicide West Virginia and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's West Virginia Chapter. The workshop is open to anyone 15 years or older, regardless of prior experience or training, to become a suicide-alert helper.
