This is a working-lunch workshop. Join us at 10am for coffee and the first part of the workshop. We'll break around noon for lunch (bring your own lunch,) and we'll resume the last part of our workshop around 12:30pm.
About the training
When it comes to suicide it's not that the person wants to die; it's that they don't know how to live.
safeTALK is a half-day, evidence-based suicide-awareness workshop that prepares anyone 15 years of age and older to become a suicide-alert helper. Most people with thoughts of suicide don’t truly want to die, but are struggling with the pain in their lives. Through their words and actions, they invite help to stay alive. safeTALK-trained helpers can recognize these invitations and take action by connecting a person at risk with life-saving intervention resources, such as caregivers trained in ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training.)
The "safe" in safeTALK stands for Suicide Alertness For Everyone. The "TALK" is an acronym for the steps you will learn about in this brief 3.5 hour suicide prevention workshop. The steps are:

-Ask
-Listen
-KeepSafe
As we go through each of these steps, and look at reasons why individuals miss, dismiss, or avoid the opportunity to talk about suicide, participants develop a better understanding how to best support a person who is having thoughts of suicide. Participants not only report feeling more ready, willing, and able to help support a person having thoughts of suicide; they also report feeling less apprehensive about talking about suicide. We help take the stigma out of suicide. And that alone helps to support life!
